Series Overview
The Cessna 172R Skyhawk is a four-seat, single-engine, high-wing general aviation aircraft widely recognized as the world's most popular trainer and rental plane. Produced from 1996 to 2008, it is powered by a 160 horsepower Lycoming IO-360-L2A fuel-injected engine, which drives a fixed-pitch propeller and offers improved fuel efficiency and quieter operation compared to earlier models. The aircraft features a maximum gross weight of 2,450 lbs, a service ceiling of 13,500 feet, and a cruise speed of approximately 122 knots at 8,000 feet. With a usable fuel capacity of 53 gallons, the 172R provides a range of roughly 580 to 687 nautical miles depending on power settings, making it ideal for both flight instruction and personal cross-country travel.
